Thomas Hagedorn is a post doctoral researcher working at the Center for e Design. His current projects focus on augmentation of engineering decision making tools using ontologies and semantic web technology. His past projects include use of ontologies to support design ideation, design for additive manufacturing, and usable design for medical contexts, as well as surgical tool design work for minimally invasive, bowel, and fat grafting operations in collaboration with UMass Medical School.
Tom graduated from Boston University in 2010 with Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering. He started in the UMass Center for e-Design as a doctoral student in 2013, after 3 years working as a biomedical engineer at the Institute for Ageing Research. He completed his PhD entitled, "Supporting the Design of Additively Manufactured Medical Devices with Ontologies" in in 2017.
